Golf Results: Sept. 15
Warsaw 185, Whitko 205, Triton N/S
The Lady Tiger golfers claimed two victories over non-conference opponents Whitko and Triton on the front nine at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester.
Warsaw’s Sydney Lancaster and Olivia Robinson-Gay carded the lowest scores in the three-way, each carding a plus-nine 45. Marie Frazzetta finished two strokes behind while teammate Delaney Byron brought in the Tigers fourth score at 48.
For Whitko, Kyley Hathaway led the way with a 46. Fellow Wildcats Gus Garr and Erin Starkweather shot a 51 and 52 respectively while Summer West completed the scorecard with a 56.
Triton once again played shorthanded and did not qualify for a team score. Maddie Ritchison shot a nine-hole 51 for the Trojans while Haley Rensberger fired a 65 and Lilly Hubert a 70.
Lady Lancers Battle At Blackthorn
Grace’s women’s golf team competed at the Battle at Blackthorn over the past two days. The Lady Lancers placed third out of seven teams in the tournament, which ended Tuesday afternoon.
Carolyn Pacocha had the steadiest hand for Grace. She produced a scorecard of 80-81 to place sixth overall. Lucy Young finished just one stroke behind her, carding 84-78 for seventh place.
Rebecca Hawes finished with an 83-87, and NorthWood graduate Abby Slabaugh was next with a total of 174. Slabaugh shined in the first round on Monday, carding a round of 78 which was fourth after day one. Rachel Harvey rounded out Grace’s scoring with a consistent 89-88.
The Lady Lancers will have the Indiana Tech Invite (JV) on Saturday followed by the Pure Michigan Invitational on Sept. 22 at Quail Ridge Golf Club (Mich.).
Grace Just Off Pace At Blackthorn
Grace’s men’s golf team rode a strong first-round performance to place second at the Battle at Blackthorn on Monday and Tuesday. The Lancers shot 605 in the tournament, finishing just two strokes away from the overall leader Lewis.
Grace enjoyed an incredible opening round on Monday. The Lancers fired a 291 as a team, eight strokes better than the rest of the field. The top three players on the leaderboard were all Lancers as well. Payton Kelly shot a 70 to lead all players, and Blake Lawson (71) and Noah Wright (72) were right behind.
Camden Gongwer shot a 78 to give Grace four players in the 70s.
The second round saw a slight rise in strokes for Grace. Gongwer was an exception, lowering his total to 75 on Tuesday to place eighth overall.
Grace had three players finish in the top 10. Wright’s 149 was good for third on the individual leaderboard, Kelly’s 150 placed fifth, and Lawson and Gongwer tied for eighth with tournament totals of 153. Parker Wilburn rounded out Grace’s scoring with a total 167 in his collegiate debut.
The Lancers return to action on Monday with the Spring Arbor Invitational at The Grande Golf Club.
