Grace Women 6, Adrian 1
Grace’s women’s tennis team had little trouble handling Adrian on Friday.
The Lady Lancers won 6-1, securing their third straight win on the young season.
Grace was dominant in doubles’ play, setting the tone for the afternoon. Jayna Armstrong and Dayana Ortega did not drop a game (6-0) at No. 1 doubles.
Kiersten Martin and Lauryn Riegsecker at No. 2 doubles as well as Ellie Hughes and Anna Graves at No. 3 doubles each won by the score of 6-1.
No singles’ court went to extra sets. Ortega was perfect at No. 2 singles, and Martin was also flawless at No. 6.
Morgan Mast produced a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles, and Riegsecker won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5.
Armstrong had a stiff challenge at No. 3 singles, battling to a grueling 7-5, 7-5 win to wrap up the afternoon’s matches.
Grace is back in action Saturday, traveling to Goshen for a doubleheader against Goshen and Mt. Vernon Nazarene.
NorthWood 3, Bethany Christian 2
A marathon win at one doubles pushed NorthWood (3-6) to a win over Bethany Christian in a home contest Friday afternoon.
Ben Vincent at No. 1 and Brady Chupp at No. 2 lost a combined two games in sweeps of Braden Bohn and Theo Siemens-Rhodes to put Wood quickly ahead. Josh Cartwright got one back for the Bruins in a shutout of Isaac Roberts at No. 3.
Aaron Shenk and Austin Shenk leveled Bethany at 2-2 after a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Brad Demitruk and Chaz Yoder at No. 2 doubles. In the decider, Gage Gongwer and Treyton Martin won a third set tiebreaker to capture a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (3) capper for the Panthers over Tyson Miller and Joseph Mounsithiraj.
Bethany claimed six of the 11 JV courts in the undercard. Winning for NorthWood included Matthew Dyck, Justin Hochstedler and Obed Lopez in singles play, and the pairings of Breece Erickson and Ethan Pairitz along with Kameron Branum and Josiah Schlabach in doubles play.
