Virgie Gregory, 88, Rochester passed away at 11:49 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, at her residence.
On Oct. 15, 1931, Virgie was born in Martin, Ky. She was a precious daughter of Jeff B. and Gracie Flannery Patton. Growing up as the middle child of the Patton kids, she shared her childhood with three sisters Becky, Jannavee and Nell and a brother Mart.
In Rochester, Virgie and Harold Gregory were married on Feb. 20, 1950. From their union came two wonderful children Danny and Deborah. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings three more generations.
Virgie grew up with a strong work ethic being born just after the “Great Depression,” in 1929. She worked as a talented seamstress for Harts-Schaffner-Marx until their closing. She also drove as a flagger vehicle assisting with the transportation of modular structures.
Each day began with Virgie enjoying her toast and coffee. To relax she enjoy watching TV. Her favorite shows were The Young and Restless and game shows Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune and the Price is Right. She also enjoyed spirited card games with her family and friends like Shang-Hi or solving a assembling challenging +1000 piece puzzles then modge-podging them to preserve and display as a picture. Virgie annually planted a truck patch garden that included corn, green beans and tomatoes. She froze and canned the bountiful harvest for her family’s winter use.
As the matriarch of the Gregory family, Grandma Vergie was so very proud to oversee five generations! The holidays and special family celebrations were times where a lifetime of precious memories were made.
Left to cherish Virgie’s memory are daughter, Deborah Gregory; son Danny Gregory and wife Jeannie all of Rochester; two grandchildren, Dawn Gregory and Daniel Gregory; five great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Cox, Bryan Hummel, Seth Royster, Haley Royster, Benjamin Gregory, three great-great-grandchildren Kato Cox, Killian Cox, Leland Cox and the Gregory family is expecting a new edition Michelle Hummel on the way and due to arrive later in 2020, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceding Virgie in death are her parents Jeff and Gracie Patton, beloved husband Harold on August 31, 2006, three sisters, Becky Garrison, Jannavee Rudd, Nell Kuncl and brother Mart Patton.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Good Family Funeral Home of Rochester.
