Robert Latta
On Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nev., Robert Latta, loving brother and uncle, passed away at the age of 74. Bob was born on Aug. 8, 1946, in Warsaw, to James and Alice (Thomson) Latta.
After graduating from Warsaw High School in 1964, he attended Purdue University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics in 1968. He received a Master of Science in Statistics (1972) and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Statistics (1975) from Stanford University in California.
His education was interrupted from 1969-1970 while he served in the United States Army completing a tour of duty in Viet Nam as a Radio Operator.
From 1975–1980, Bob was a professor of statistics at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He followed this with a twenty-six-year career as a statistician for the Energy Department of the United States in Washington D.C.
Bob had a passion for the outdoors enjoying both biking and hiking. He also enjoyed playing golf, tennis and pickle ball. He was very active in the Sun City Summerlin Pickle Ball Group in Las Vegas. An avid card player, he achieved a Life Masters in the American Contract Bridge League and played many hours of poker.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, James, and his mother, Alice. He is survived by his brother, Richard, and his sister, Connie Latta Newcomb.
A private family gathering will be held.
