NorthWood Peppers Top Of Own Invite
It was a banner day for NorthWood in hosting its 20th annual NorthWood Cross Country Invite Saturday morning in the shadows of McCormick Creek Golf Course.
NorthWood’s boys team totaled a scant 41 points to topple the field, with Concord looking up at 74 points and South Bend Riley in third at 104. Jordan Burden was fourth overall with a time of 17:52, with teammate Brady Hunsberger seven seconds behind and Owen Allen four behind Hunsberger. Grady Stevenson’s 18:09 and Eric Hostetler’s 18:18 gave the Panthers all five within the top 20.
Concord’s Anthony Roberts was the overall champion, running a blistering 17:23 to pull away from Wawasee’s Karlson Hand, who timed a 17:40. Hand had led the first half of the race before Roberts caught the Wawasee senior on the second run of the course.
The Warriors were sixth overall, led by Hand. Camden Powell, who also ran with the leaders through the first half of the race, faded back to 14th at 18:32, but then dropped back to Josiah Boyer at 20:02, Senate Shaw at 20:15 and Kaiden Ruff at 20:53.
Triton had one boy active, with Tyler Gladieux clocking a 21:23.
The girls race saw another NorthWood championship, this time from Kaitlin Burden. The junior got out in front of the entire pack and never looked back. Burden ran unopposed to the finish at 20:37 to win the individual championship.
Emilie Allen finished 20th overall at 23:18 and Reese Barhydt was 10 seconds back of her teammate to highlight the Panthers.
NorthWood’s team scored 95 points to finish third, trailing St. Joe’s championship 63 points and 81 by Mishawaka.
Wawasee had Mariah Hurst lead the team with a 24:10, which placed 28th overall. Lily Tyler finished at 24:34 and Autumn Turner came in at 25:57 to highlight the top three for the Warriors.
Triton’s Jocelynn Faulkner had a great race, taking seventh overall at 21:57, running with the second wave for much of the race before the group spread out heading into and out of the final hill. Valerie Eib (27:58) and Anna McIntyre (31:14) were the other two Trojans on the course.
NorthWood’s JV boys stormed to a title with just 17 points, taking the top four individual places in the process. Markuz Piercy won the junior race with a time of 19:22 to pace the Panthers. Concord topped St. Joe as the only two full girls squads. Bridgette Stutsman of NorthWood was the top JV female, clocking 25:30.
Valley, LCA Run At Northfield
Tippecanoe Valley and Lakeland Christian had entrants in the Northfield Invitational Saturday morning in Wabash County.
Valley’s top three boys were listed as Chase Miller in 18th place at 20:10, Brady Rodgers at 21:35 and Evan Myers at 22:09.
LCA’s top three were listed as Jude Hall at 22:23, David Plastow at 22:26 and Gabe Anderson at 25:48.
Southwood’s Braden Sweet won the boys race at 17:07.
The girls race had Chesnee Miller lead the Vikings at 22:44, which was second place overall. Ella Myers had a 25:49 and Talia Holder came in at 27:07.
LCA’s top three were Becca Bass at 30:30, Kathryn Monsma at 34:12 and Fe-Ammari Garcia at 40:33.
Manchester’s Josie Briner conquered the course at 22:00 to claim honors at Northfield.
