Ray S. Hancock
Ray S. Hancock, 83, rural North Manchester, passed at 8:19 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020, at his residence.
He was born on Jan. 31, 1937, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to the late Swan and Gracie (Pentigrass) Hancock. He married in 1970 in Warsaw to Martha Conley; she survives.
He had worked for Pike Lumber Company for nearly 35 years. In earlier years he enjoyed fishing and always enjoyed watching Westerns. He was known to make birdhouses and was fond of spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife: Martha Hancock; sons: Kenneth Lynn Hancock, Hammond; and Fred Shepherd, Silver Lake; a daughter: Naidene (Kenneth) Moore, North Manchester; and Sara Beeney, North Manchester; grandchildren: William, Tiffany, Amber, Breanna, Kenneth Jr., Samantha, Danny, Jeremy, Keeton, Kayla, and Amanda; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters: Louvenia Trece, Cleo Goins, and Karen (Gary) Cooper, all of Georgia; and brothers: Alfred (Jeanette) Hancock, Alabama; Warnell (Kathy) Hancock, Rensselaer; and Marlon (Shirley) Hancock, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Lucy and Shirley.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Kent Harting officiating.
Burial will follow at Gaerte Cemetery, Macy.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
