Joann S. Yates
Joann S. Yates, 79, of Elkhart and formerly of Mentone, passed at 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020, at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Elkhart.
Joann was born on Nov. 22, 1940, in Huntington, to the late Fred E. and Luella (Johnston) Converse. She married on Feb. 19, 1960, in Huntington, to Norman L. Yates, who preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2012.
She had worked for Frank & Jerry’s Grocery and M & R Egg Company both of Mentone, as well as being a homemaker.
She was a graduate of Huntington High School in 1959. She attended the First Baptist Church of Mentone where she helped with Sunday School and sang in the choir. Her family was her life and she always enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Scrivens, Kendallville; two sons, Mark E. and wife Jan Yates, Elkhart, and Michael and wife Michelle Yates, Loveland, Colorado; six grandchildren, Heather, Toni and husband Chris, Nathan, Kyle and J.T.; and a great granddaughter, Kahlan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman Yates, three sisters, seven brothers, and a son-in-law Brian Scrivens.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 28, at King Memorial Home 101 North Tucker Street Mentone, with Pastor Michael Wilhite officiating.
The interment will follow the service in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.
Visitation hours will be 10-11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 28, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
Masks will be required for all in attendance for the services for Mrs. Yates.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the First Baptist Church of Mentone.
