COLUMBIA CITY — The sentencing for Courtney Kincaid, who was found guilty on three criminal charges in the death of 11-month-old Emma Grace Leeman, is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, in Whitley County Circuit Court.
She could face up to 110 years in prison. The advisory sentence recommended by the state is 77 1/2 years.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, reporters and the general public are not allowed inside of the courtroom for sentencing. However, the proceedings will be live streamed.
On April 12, 2018, Kincaid was babysitting Emma when Emma sustained severe injuries to her skull. Emma later died as a result of her injuries on April 13, 2018. The manner of death was ruled a homicide. Emma Grace’s parents are Nick and Sherry Leeman, Pierceton.
During a five-day jury trial in July, Kincaid, 30, was found guilty of aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent resulting in death, both level 1 felonies; and battery with death to a person under 14 years old, a level 2 felony. After trial proceedings concluded, Kincaid was remanded into the custody of the Whitley County Sheriff.
