WARSAW — The weekday forecast for northern Indiana calls for hot conditions a chance of showers and thunderstorms at the tail end of the week.
According to the National Weather Service of Northern Indiana, the forecast for Tuesday, Aug. 25, includes a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. It will be mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 90 and heat index values as high as 96.
Peak afternoon heat indices are expected to range form the mid-90s to around 100 today. Heat indices are also expected to reach the 95 to 100 degree range once again on Wednesday and Thursday.
The weather service suggesting people practice heat safety this week. Limit outdoor activities if possible, particularly anything strenuous. If you plan to be outside, take frequent breaks in an air conditioned location and drink a lot of water. If driving, when you park don’t forget to look before you lock; never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle. Each year, dozens of children and an untold number of pets left in vehicles die from overheating.
Wednesday will also be mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 93 and heat index values as high as 97.
Thursday and Friday’s forecast includes a chance of showers and thunderstorms. There is a 40% chance of precipitation on Thursday, mainly after 2 p.m. It will also be mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 93. Friday’s forecast includes a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 87.
The best chances for thunderstorms will be on Friday and Friday night. A few strong storms are possible during this period.
The weekend will be sunny, with highs in the upper 70s.
