Lakeland Christian Academy Boys 3, Elkhart Christian Academy 2
In Winona Lake, Lakeland Christian Academy tallied a win three minutes into overtime on Brayden Lane’s second goal of the evening off an assist from Garrett McKeever. Lane’s first goal evened the game at one off a penalty kick in the 29th minute of the first half.
McKeever scored the second goal, which equalized the game at two per side with only seven minutes remaining in regulation with the help of Lane.
For the visiting Eagles, Nolan Jongsma and Theo Twitchell each found the back of the net with assists from Jacob Becker and Josiah Simpson, respectively.
ECA outshot their hosts 15-7, with LCA’s keeper Peter Koller stopping 13 shots and Isaac Badskey denying 4 of the Cougars’ attempts. The match was the first of the season for each team.
“The guys played with tremendous effort and heart tonight,” said LCA coach Dan Miller. “Brayden Lane scored two goals, but he also did an incredible job anchoring our backline. Peter Koller made two key saves in goal, and Garrett McKeever was able to finish a breakaway goal to send the game into overtime. We played with 12 players tonight, and still showed such resilience to come back twice and win.”
