City Squeaks Past Wawasee
Staff Report
COLUMBIA CITY – Knowledge of its home course certainly helped Columbia City in its quest to take down Wawasee Wednesday afternoon in girls golf.
At Eagle Glen, City had its top four all under 50 in a 180-196 victory over the visiting Lady Warriors.
From the three spot, Linsey McCammon posted a 43 to lead the hosts. Katy Hoag’s 44 and Mackensy Mabie was a shot back at 45. Abby Pequignot gave the Eagles its fourth recorded score at 48. Niya Bell (52) and Cora Hall (59) also competed for City.
While McCammon led City with her 43, Wawasee’s Tate Cowan had the round of the day with a medalist 42. The hopes of a visiting dual win, though, fell off with its next three scores in the 50s, with Taylor Cripe (51), Izzy Losee (53) and Rylee Firestone (54) all being counted. Delaney Delagrange (63) and Ayla Torres (67) also got in work for the Warriors.
Wawasee (0-1) will compete Thursday at the NorthWood Invite at McCormick Creek.
