Indiana Man Drowns Trying To Save His Children In Lake Michigan

ST. JOSEPH, MICH. – A 44-year-old man drowned Thursday night at Lions Park Beach in St. Joseph, Mich., after he tried to rescue his two children, who were caught in an undertow.
Officers from the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety responded to the beach shortly after 8 p.m. for calls for a water rescue on Lake Michigan.
They found the father, from Lakeville, Ind., trying to save his children, ages 12 and 17. The man drowned but the children were rescued by a St. Joseph reserve officer, Everett Gaston.
Two other people were also struggling in the water but were rescued by a man on a surfboard, according to a release by the Department of Public Safety.
