SYRACUSE – Democrats in Kosciusko County have cancelled a fundraiser set for Sunday, July 26, that would have included gubernatorial candidate Woody Myers.
The fourth annual cruise around Lake Wawasee on the SS LillyPad boat was set for Sunday, but has been cancelled because of the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
Kosciusko County Democratic Chairman Brian Smith announced the decision Friday afternoon and said it was done with “deep disappointment.”
“Over the last week, the COVID-19 situation in Indiana and in our region has become much worse. Every day seems to set a new record for positive cases. The health and safety of our members are of utmost concern, and while we had implemented several protocols, an event of this size is simply too risky at this time,” Smith said in a news release.
Anyone who purchased a ticket can have it transferred to next year’s event or can request a full refund.
Smith said ticket sales had been “robust” despite the safeguards that had been put in place for the pandemic.
