WARSAW — A petition requesting that Warsaw Community Schools develop a safer reopening plan has been launched at change.org.
The petition, called “Parents for a Better School Reopening Plan from Warsaw Community Schools,” appears to have been initiated three days ago.
The petition maintains that the current school reopening plan from Warsaw Community Schools does not do enough to protect the health and safety of students, families or educators who work in the school system.
Key problems with the current plan, according to the petition, are listed in the petition:
- The WCS online instructional option denies students access to the same quality curriculum and is only available to students with health risks and unique circumstances with health needs.
- The WCS plan will deny students who take the online option from participating in extracurricular activities, dual language immersion, and STEM activities
- WCS plan does not sufficiently follow health department guidelines for school reopening.
The petition also contends that there are other Indiana school districts with safer reopening plans that WCS could potentially model.
As of mid-afternoon, on Tuesday, July 21, there 172 signatures on the petition.
