WARSAW – Organizers with People of Change announced plans for a candlelight vigil in memory of a female US Army Soldier who died recently.
The event at the Central Park plaza will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, July 3.
The vigil is intended as a way to pay respects for Vanessa Guillen, the 20-year-old soldier who went missing from the US Fort Hood Army base in Texas where she was stationed.
“Please note this will be a moment for all of us to come together to stand with Vanessa and her family. We are so deeply saddened and hurt, and wish for people to show up with an open heart and to be respectful,” read a statement on the Facebook page run by People of Change.
People of Change organized four recent demonstrations in support of Black Lives Matter following the death of George Floyd.
“As always, this will be a peaceful and non-violent demonstration,” the statement said.
Those who attend are asked to bring masks and candles.
