KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — Kathy Groninger is running for County Council at Large. Originally from Indianapolis, Kathy came to Kosciusko County twenty-seven (27) years ago after having earned a B.S. degree in Political Science from DePauw University and a law degree from I.U. School of Law, Indianapolis. She has been married to Cary Groninger for twenty-five (25) years and together they have three (3) children. Early in her legal career, Kathy worked in the area of general practice with an emphasis on family and criminal law. She and her husband Cary started a small business involving real estate development, which she manages. Currently, Kathy is also involved in jail ministry and is on the board of directors of a nonprofit addiction recovery program.
Kathy is concerned that financial challenges may lie ahead for our County as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of the shutdown, funding sources may be reduced or delayed potentially resulting in a negative impact on our revenue stream. It may take several years for us to recover from the loss of revenue caused by this shutdown. Therefore county officials are going to need to be very strategic about the use of our funds and make sure that we focus on meeting our basic necessities, rather than on areas that would be nice but are not essential. The county funds many programs and Kathy wants to make certain that we are not just throwing money at problems but are rather obtaining the desired results.
She also believes that she offers a fresh perspective. Having been raised in Indianapolis, she knows what it’s like to move to a smaller community and have to find her place. Living on a farm, she also understands the practical problems that those living in rural Kosciusko County face with less than optimal broadband and cellular services. Kathy states, “ I am running for office because I want to give back and I believe that my skills as an attorney and small business owner would be a benefit to the county council. “ Kathy loves to learn, ask questions, and dig into issues. She is open to new ideas and works hard to treat others with respect. Her involvement over the years in charitable organizations is indicative of her servant’s heart. The many people who have reached out to support her as she has embarked on this campaign have encouraged Kathy. Kathy states, “As an attorney, wife, small business owner, and mother I’m asking for your support on or before June 2nd as I work hard to earn the opportunity to serve the community.”
