William Baldwin
William R. Baldwin, 83, Warsaw, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Ctr, Plymouth.
Bill was born June 13, 1936, in Perth Amboy, N.J., to William G. and Lydia (Malwitz) Baldwin.
He spent his childhood in Carteret, N.J., moving to Spring Lake Heights, N.J., at the Jersey Shore. Eventually relocating to Warsaw, in 1974.
He was united in marriage to Joan Kish of Carteret, N.J., in October of 1957. Joan passed away in October 1996. Bill was united in marriage on June 26, 1999, to Gretchen Greene Doyle in Warsaw.
Bill earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of New. York. He was also a graduate from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA. where he studied Mandarin Chinese. Bill proudly served his country from 1958 – 1964 as a SP5 (T) in the U.S. Army serving in the far east as a Chinese translator. He was employed by Pratt and Lambert as an industrial sales representative from 1964-1972. In 1972 he joined Armstrong Powder Coatings of Warsaw. Relocating to Warsaw in 1974, Bill assumed the position of Sales Manager. From 1988-2003 he was the Market Development Manager for PPG Industries, retiring in 2003.
Bill believed strongly that one should give back to the community. He served as City Councilman Spring Lake Heights, N. J., Wall township N.J. Jaycees President, Member of the Central Park Planning commission in Warsaw, IN. He also served as President of Warsaw Parks & Recreation Board of Directors, Planning Commission, President of Kosciusko Literacy Services Board of Directors, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Music Ministry from 1974 to present. His professional affiliations include the Powder Coating Institute, Chemical Coaters Association and Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
William is survived by his wife of 21 years, Gretchen Baldwin, Warsaw; sons: Russell (Vicki) Baldwin, Huntsville, Ala., Randy (Vicky Watkins) Baldwin, Warsaw; sister, Joan Baldwin Amzler, Rock Hill, S.C.; brothers: Robert Baldwin, St. Petersburg, Fla., Gordon Baldwin, Litchfield, Conn. In addition, surviving are grandchildren: Ryan Baldwin, Chelsea (Hayden) Piersal, Syracuse, and Paige (Dustin) Scharf, Mentone, Joseph (Rachel) Baldwin, Grovetown, Ga., Jordon(Erin) Baldwin, Wilmington, N.C., and Jeanna Baldwin, Huntsville, Ala.; great grandchildren:Emily Baldwin, Madelyn, Annabel, and Amelia Scharf, Warsaw, Liam, Mason and Connor Baldwin, Grovetown, Ga.; step children: Danielle (Paul) Bowman, Noblesville, Joseph Doyle, Portage, Patrick (Sharon) Doyle, Noblesville, and Shannon Doyle, Warsaw; step grandchildren, Alexander Sizemore, Warsaw, and Christopher Jameson, Largo, Fla.
He was preceded in death by brother, Wallace Baldwin.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020, in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Father Jonathan Norton will officiate. Military Honors will be rendered by American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W. Post #1126. Services are entrusted to McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw
