Warren W. “Bill” Schmal
Warren W. “Bill” Schmal, 70, Leiters Ford, passed away at 2:17 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Parkview Hospital of Wabash.
In Hammond, on Nov. 22, 1949, he was born to Donald Lewis and Marilyn Jean Winkler Schmal. He moved to Leiters Ford in 1968 from Lansing, Mich.
He answered the call of patriotism and served in the US Army from January 1970 to January 1972, leaving with an honorable discharge.
He and Mary E. Smith were married on July 30, 1990, in the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee after a long-distance relationship. They shared 28 years of life’s adventures. Sadly, she passed away on March 24, 2018.
As the owner-operator of Schmal’s Auto Repair of Leiters Ford, he served the Fulton County community since 1973. He was the Vice-President of the Indiana Truck Pullers Association. His truck, “Weezer,” was named after his wife, using her nickname. Mary was known for her vocal support and was an avid fan of the truck pullers.
Bill is lovingly remembered by a son: Shawn Schmal, Rochester; two step-daughters: Jacqueline Sutton and husband Eddie, Georgia; and Cassandra Green and husband Jimmy, Ohio; one granddaughter: Morgan Schmal, Rochester; seven step-grandchildren: Joshua, Eric, Haley and James Green, Ohio; Myranda, Aaron and Chase Sutton; a sister: Cathy and husband Gordon; two brothers: David Schmal, Scott Schmal and wife Debbie; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bill in death are his parents.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
