Syracuse Woman Accused Of Stealing Checks
Staff Report
WARSAW – A Syracuse woman was arrested after allegedly stealing nearly $10,000 from a couple.
Leah Nicole DeSomer, 21, 153 EMS D24 Lane, Syracuse, is charged with fraud on a financial institution, a level 5 felony.
On Feb. 17, officers spoke with the couple at their home. While the man was in Florida, the woman had remained at home. Both said that DeSomer came to their residence on Jan. 30, and again around Feb. 9 or 10.
The couple was checking their bank statement when they discovered that two checks were made out to “Leah DeSomer,” each for $2,500. That amount was cashed from their Lake City bank account, and neither check was authorized by the couple.
On Feb. 18, it was discovered that three more checks had been taken and cashed, all made out to “Leah Desomer” with a combined total of $4,950. All of the checks were deposited into an account with Interra Credit Union. DeSomer was also later allegedly caught stealing a $100 dollar bill from the two while she was visiting the home and was confronted about that incident.
She was then interviewed at the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office about the checks and admitted taking them.
DeSomer was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on May 22.
