A Silent Leader In North Webster
Dear Editor,
My name is Dave Williams and my family is on vacation this week at Fisherman Cove Resort in North Webster at no charge, thanks to the kindness of Chuck Lawrence, the owner.
We have been visiting North Webster for the last 18 years on vacation, with this year being our 19th year.
Last year in January, I had an accident in my home. I broke a plate on the way back to my kitchen and landed on top of the plate and cut my face wide open and severed an artery in my face. I broke two ribs and injured both knees and my right leg. After 30 stitches to my face, I returned home to recover. Two weeks later, to the day, my job was terminated after eight years thru downsizing, and I was still injured with no insurance and no job.
On the first of February, the deposit for the resort was due and I called Chuck Lawrence and told him we were not going to be able to afford to go on vacation this year. Chuck, pausing just a minute, said you still need to go on vacation and offered to give us a week-long paid vacation.
I am very humbled by his generosity and thought you should know the caliber of citizens in your community. I did finally receive my disability payments and have been saving for next year’s vacation. 2020 has been a very interesting year but every day we are touched by the kindness of others and stories of the silent heroes in our communities.
Thank you so much for listening and if you happen to talk to Chuck Lawrence sometime you will know how much he is a silent hero for North Webster and a good person he is.
