AKRON — The Tippecanoe Valley School Board held a work session tonight, May 14, that lasted only ten minutes. The meeting was held at the administration building but was live-streamed on the corporation’s Facebook page for the public to view.
Superintendent Blaine Conley went over three new hires that will be up for approval during the next board meeting.
Tippecanoe Valley High School is hiring two new guidance counselors, Katelyn Bradley and Jaclyn Holley. TVHS is also looking to hire Jonathan Tinkey as a social studies teacher. It was noted that Tinkey is interested in starting an e-sports league, which would be one of the first school-sponsored leagues in the area.
During the regular board meeting, members will be asked to approve a temporary elementary and middle school grading policy. This temporary grading policy is due to the ongoing e-learning caused by COVID-19.
The board will also have a chance to vote on the previously discussed revisions to the student, staff, and athletic handbooks.
Before adjourning the meeting, Conley noted that under normal circumstances, these board meetings would be a chance to recognize students for all their achievements. He said that he hopes to be able to recognize some of the students in June or at the beginning of the next school year.
“Typically, we would be recognizing a lot of kids over the past two months … recognizing all of the work that our students have done this year,” said Conley. “We still want to do that, we still want to have the opportunity for those kids to come into a board meeting and be recognized for everything they’ve done. We understand that the school year is technically winding down, but this isn’t a typical school year.”
The regular board meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, May 18, at Mentone Elementary. It was noted that the seating arrangement would be adjusted to comply with social distancing guidelines.
