Helen S. Drudge, 96, North Manchester, formerly of Silver Lake, passed away at 1:45 p.m., April 29, 2020, at Peabody Healthcare Center. Helen was born to Paul and Wilgerdia (Kissinger) Sittler on July 30, 1923, in Wabash County.
Helen graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1941. She grew up and lived most of her life in Silver Lake, then moved to Venice, Fla. for 25 years, before moving to Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, to be closer to family. On Sept. 27, 1942, Helen married Frank E. Drudge. The two were marred for 70 years before Frank passed away on April 29, 2013.
Helen radiated a kindness that was infectious to others. She was the salt of the earth with a soft-spoken personality and a well-dressed fashion. She and her husband enjoyed traveling the world together. She also enjoyed playing Dominoes with family and friends. For women that grew up in the 1950’s and later, she was a role model for her independent personality and her desire to work outside the home.
The memory of Helen will be forever cherished by her son, Michael (Carole “Gus” Grinstead) Drudge, Sylvania, Ohio; brother, Tom (Patty) Sittler, Silver Lake; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Ellen) Drudge, Geyserville, Calif. and Derek Drudge, Mesa, Ariz.; great-grandchild, Franklin Drudge; and two step-grandchildren, Nick (Lisa) Grinstead, Sweden and Lindsay Grinstead, Madison, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one daughter-in-law, Mary K. Drudge who passed away in 2004.
Services for Helen S. Drudge will be held at a later date.
For those who wish to honor the memory of Helen, memorial contributions may be made to the Wabash County Cancer Society, P.O. Box 144, North Manchester, Indiana 46962
