Donald Hughes
Donald R. Hughes, 82, Rochester, passed away at 1:27 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1938, in Altoona, Pa., the son of Harold Walter and Alice Mae (Kiser) Hughes.
On April 12, 1976, in Tawas City, Mich., he married Judy Mullins and she survives.
In 1957, he graduated from Scotland (Pennsylvania) School for Veteran’s Children.
Hughes was a Vietnam War veteran having served with United States Air Force for over 28 years, retiring as Senior Master Sergeant. He had worked for the Grissom Redevelopment Authority in Bunker Hill for many years. His service time with the Air Force also included over 10 years of foreign service and numerous decorations, citations, medals, badges and campaign ribbons. After retirement he enjoyed traveling with Judy, spending time working in his yard and was an avid sports fan.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Hughes, Rochester; children: Donna (David) LeClair, Circle Pines, Minn., Dawn (Mark) Major, Bozeman, Montana, Wade (Shantell) Hughes, Jacksonville, Fla., Michelle Hughes and husband Troy Ferdig, Bennington, Neb., grandchildren, Maia (David) LeClair Sheaffer, Andrew (Yasmin) Major, Carolynn Major, Danielle Rodeghier, Lane Hughes, Bella Hughes, Vincent Hughes, Owen Ferdig, Joslyn Ferdig; brothers: Charles (Barb) Hughes, Moses Lake, Wash., Robert Hughes, Tyrone, Pa., Dennis (Kathy) Hughes, Ephrata, Pa.; father-in-law, Ralph Mullins, Rochester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard Hughes, Thomas Hughes, Gary Hughes, sisters, Darlene Meyer and Patricia Lightel.
Private services will be conducted at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be expressed at the funeral home website.
