NAPPANEE – Ben Mestach was an impact football player for the NorthWood Panthers. He’s hoping to continue that trend at the next level.
Mestach announced he is choosing to continue his football and academic careers at Trine University.
The All-Northern Lakes Conference performer as a senior was among the team leaders for the Panthers. His combined 324 kick return yards led the squad in addition to contributing 59 carries for 591 yards and 10 touchdowns as well as 10 catches for 173 yards and two more scores.
On the defensive side of the ball, Mestach made 19 solo and 57 assisted stops, which at 6.9 tackles per game ranked second on the team. Mestach also knocked down two passes and had two sacks.
NorthWood, coached by Nate Andrews, finished the season 7-4 overall.
Mestach was also a three-year performer in track and was set to enter his fourth year this spring.
In the classroom, Mestach holds a 3.6 GPA and will look to study accounting at Trine. Mestach has been a member of National Honor Society as a student at NorthWood.
“I chose Trine because I like the atmosphere surrounding the football program and the accounting program is very prestigious. I also like how everyone makes you feel like family,” offered Mestach of his decision.
Trine wrapped up its 2019 season 5-5 overall and 2-5 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Thunder are coached by Troy Abbs, who finished up his fifth season last fall.
