Warsaw Man Arrested For Domestic Battery
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested after battering and strangling a woman.
Malachi Hanes Sweeny, 27, 2151 Laurelwood Drive, Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery with a child under 16 present and strangulation, both level 6 felonies; domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor; and domestic battery with a prior conviction, a level 5 felony.
On March 24, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s officer went to a residence regarding a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with a woman who said she had been sleeping when she woke up and noticed her phone was not on her charger. The woman discovered that Sweeny had the phone and a verbal argument began.
According to court documents, the woman attempted to retrieve her cellphone when Sweeny allegedly pushed her up against a wall by placing his hand on her neck. The woman further described the altercation and said that Sweeny hit her and pushed her. At one point during the conversation, Sweeny told the woman “I should just kill you or better yet, kill yourself.”
There were children present in the residence at the time of the dispute. One of the children saw Sweeny hit the woman.
Sweeny was previously convicted of battery in June 2014, which involved the same victim.
He has an initial hearing for this case at 1 p.m. April 30.
