Women Of Today Donate 222 Meals In Third Syracuse Giveaway This Week
SYRACUSE — The outpouring of support during this pandemic continues in the Syracuse community. The Women of Today sponsored another free meal giveaway on Friday, April 3, with the assistance of The Channel Marker.
What began as a food giveaway with 100 meals turned into a total of 222 meals made and given away Friday afternoon. Those who came were given meals of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans from The Channel Marker.
Generous donations from The Women of Today as well as on the spot donations from those who drove up allowed them to increase the number of meals with which to continue to support the community during these difficult times.
While dinners were set to be handed out beginning at 4 p.m., the meals were ready and began to be distributed at 3:30 p.m. The first car took its place in line shortly before 3 p.m. Individuals were asked how many meals were needed and given the packaged dinner. Sets of plastic utensils were also available if needed. By 4 p.m. 100 meals had already been given out. The remaining meals lasted until approximately 5 p.m.
Angie Goralczyk from Women of Today came up with plans for this event Monday and began advertising by Wednesday for the food giveaway. “It’s a great idea to help out the community,” she commented. “We just want to be people to help if we can.” She also brought gloves and masks for each of the volunteers to wear while handing out the meals.
She mentioned that there have been talks of doing it again if the need is still there in a few weeks.
