Trudie G. Hovarter
Trudie G. Hovarter, 70, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 4, 2020, at her home.
She was born on May 7, 1949, in South Bend, to the late Elmer and Ernestine (Stegmann) Shanafelt. She has resided in LaPaz since 1970. On May 23, 1970, in North Liberty, she and LaVern L. Hovarter were united in marriage. LaVern preceded her in death on May 20, 2016. One son, Todd Hovarter, also preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 2013.
She worked for Fairmount Homes in Nappanee for 30 years in the accounts receivable department. She was formerly employed at Alibi’s Restaurant in LaPaz and the former Farmer’s State Bank in LaPaz. She was a faithful member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Plymouth, a longtime member of the American Legion, Post 363 in Lakeville, and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Plymouth.
She is survived by her two daughters: Tabitha (Rick) Yakel, Portage; and Tammy (Noel) Williams, LaPaz; a son: Jeff (Tracy) Hovarter, Battle Creek, Mich.; a daughter-in-law: Pam Hovarter, Knox; seven grandchildren: Ryan (Jill) Hovarter, Jeremy Williams, Sara (Brad) Lechlitner, Nick Young, Ashley (Adam) Geyer, Emma Hovarter and Ben Hovarter; five great grandchildren: Brianna, Housten, Adam, Riley and Jack; three sisters: Barbara Cole, Tyner; Paula Johns, Arizona; and Peggy Mervine, Niles; and one brother: Bob Anderson, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 1314 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Pastor Eric Ahlemeyer will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Plymouth.
