Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest; Bath Salts Found
WARSAW — A Warsaw man faces multiple charges after drugs were allegedly discovered during a traffic stop.
Joshua Allan Miller, 31, 340 East Levi Lee Road 94, Warsaw, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; possession of syringe, a level 6 felony; possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; driving while suspended, a class A misdemeanor; and resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor.
On Feb. 15, a deputy with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol and observed a vehicle pass by his vehicle without dimming its headlights. The deputy caught up to the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the deputy approached the vehicle and soon learned Miller was driving with a suspended license.
A K9 unit was dispatched to the scene, conducted an outer-air search of the vehicle and alerted authorities to an odor of illegal drugs coming from the vehicle, said the affidavit.
Officers searched the vehicle while the deputy stood with Miller. The deputy then saw Miller allegedly attempt to hide something in his mouth. The deputy asked Miller to open his mouth. The deputy allegedly saw a small plastic bag that contained a white substance. When asked by the deputy, Miller refused to take the object out of his mouth, said the affidavit.
Miller was taken to the ground by police and eventually made Miller spit out the plastic bag.
According the affidavit, Miller said he believed the substance to be bath salts. The white substance tested positive for Mephedrone, the technical name for bath salts. Mephedrone is a Schedule I controlled substance.
On Feb. 16, Miller was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail. He was later released on his own recognizance.
