Priscilla June Rhode
Priscilla June Rhode, 99, Syracuse, passed away at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, at her home. She was born on June 23, 1920, in Chicago, Ill. to Otto J. and Edith (Williams) Rhode.
She moved to the Syracuse area when she was 14 years old from Chicago, Ill. and graduated in 1938 from Syracuse High School. She also graduated from University of Illinois, received her Master’s Degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis, and was a United States Coast Guard veteran. She retired from Elkhart General Hospital after 16 years and was a social worker for a total of 40 years.
She was a member of the St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Syracuse, former member of the Order of Eastern Star (O.E.S.) in Syracuse, and on June 1997 she received the Sagamore of the Wabash from Governor Frank O’Bannon.
She is survived by two nieces: Judith DeLury of Syracuse and Jennifer (Jim) Gaines of Green Valley, Ariz.; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Franklin Rhode and Ralph Rhodes
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, March 2, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Jim Tormey officiating. Burial will take place in the Syracuse Cemetery with military graveside rites.
