Krystal K. Smith, 71, Rochester, passed at 12:50 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East.

She was born on Nov. 25, 1948, in Rochester to the late Herb and Gloria (Ensign) Ballenger. She married on March 22, 1975, in Kewanna, to Dennis A. Smith, who preceded her in death on March 31, 2001.

Krystal was 1966 Rochester High School graduate. She then graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching and a Minor in Library Science. She then attained her Master’s Degree in Teaching. She attended the Akron Church of God for many years.

She taught for Kewanna Schools and worked at the Rochester Library. She later became the head of the Mentone Library.

Krystal is survived by her aunt and uncle John and Marilyn Ensign of Peru and cousin Jill and husband Bill Stockwell of Crawfordsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Denny Smith, twin brother Kenton Ballenger, aunt and uncle Dean and Freda Ault, and cousin Alys and husband Dale Doering.

Private burial will take place in the Citizens IOOF Cemetery of Kewanna.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date at the Akron Church of God.
