Illegal Dumping Reported At North Webster Recycling Site
WARSAW — The Board of Directors for the Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District discussed issues with illegal dumping at the North Webster recycling site during its meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
On Feb. 4, two recycling containers at the KC Recycling Depot’s North Webster location were filled with used insulation. The depot made a Facebook post regarding the issue and asked the public to contact the depot if they knew who was responsible.
“If you see it happening, just call us and we’ll call the appropriate folks to handle the issue,” said Kosciusko County Recycling Depot Director Tom Ganser.
Ganser said additional informative stickers have been placed on recycling bins at the Warsaw site and will be used at the depot’s other bins throughout the county.
In continuation with that discussion, Ashley Smith, Whitley Environmental office manager, complimented board members and the depot’s employees for monitoring the recycling sites and watching for contamination.
“You guys are keeping tabs on all your sites a lot better than what some of our other counties are doing,” said Smith. “The amount of trash that we’re getting from you guys with contamination is considerably less. Monitoring and having the gates up helps. I think it’ll get better as time goes on. We’re still in a busier time of year too and people want to just get rid of their stuff without thinking of the end result.”
The board’s next meeting will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17.
