The Gymnastics Midpoint Moves The Meter
LAGRANGE – The unofficial midpoint of the gymnastics season hit Saturday as the Lakeland Invite took center stage.
All of the teams in the Wawasee Sectional at the end of the month, plus area powerhouse Fort Wayne Carroll, were on hand in the meter stick meet for most coaches.
DeKalb won the team championship, holding off Angola, Elkhart Central and Carroll in a power-packed team lineup. The Barons had Sarah Boyd lead the way with an all-around championship at 36.35, buoyed by titles on beam (9.2) and floor (9.575).
Also winning championships at Lakeland were Audrey Wilkinson of Angola, who led vault with a 9.3, and Kylie Goetz of Carroll, who scored 8.7 to lead the bars tallies.
Wawasee’s Aundreya Wegener put herself in the conversation with a fifth-place all-around number of 34.225, helped by fourth-place scores of 9.4 on floor and 8.85 on beam. Wegener also led Wawasee on bars at 7.4. Talia Kuhl led the Warriors on vault with an 8.625, good for 11th in the meet.
Warsaw saw Daylen Turner score a 32.775 in all-around, helped by an 8.6 on floor, 8.225 on beam and 8.5 on vault. Sydni Purvis scored 7.65 on bars to lead the Tigers.
