Lanterns Of Love Honor Lost Children
WARSAW — An event honoring victims of miscarriage and children who have passed is set for Sunday, Feb 9, in Warsaw.
Lanterns of Love is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Sunday. The event is hosted by Flashy Photography. The purpose of the event is to capture the memories of lost children for parents who have miscarried and/or have lost babies.
Ashley, the owner of Flashy Photography, said this is the first time for the event.
“The idea for it came to me recently after speaking with a client who shared that she had suffered a recent miscarriage and was doing her (photo) session to feel good about herself again,” Ashley said. “It made me pause and reflect on the numerous people, both in my own life and that I have met professionally, who have shared they have either suffered a miscarriage, lost a child at birth or shortly after or buried a child later in life.”
“I suffered two miscarriages before welcoming our daughter Earthside, so this event also holds special meaning personally,” Ashley said.
The goal is to get a photo that captures everyone in attendance releasing their lanterns together, “a large visual celebration of love and the devastating reality of how many people are affected by loss,” Ashley said.
Prior to the releasing of the lanterns, Ashley plans to take as many individual shots of families attending the event as possible.
All spots for the Sunday event have been filled, but Gerber says she is planning an event in the spring that will also be environmentally friendly through the usage of biodegradable lanterns.
The event will be at 1910 Fisher Ave., Warsaw. The gathering will take place at dusk at approximately 6:15 p.m. and the send-off will be held at dark.
Attendees are asked to please park only on the gravel drive and not in the yard.
Anyone who has experienced the loss of a child is welcome at the event.
