Lewie Arnold Overlander, 81, Akron, died on Jan. 31, 2020 following a lengthy illness at 11:35 p.m. at his residence.
He was born on April 4, 1938, in rural Miami County, Indiana to Edward and Catherine (Kamp) Overlander. He was one of six children and lived his whole life in the Akron community.
Lewie married Joan Williams on April 3, 1967 and she died on June 22, 1987. He then married Kathie Ann Swain on November 5, 1993 in Paintsville, Kentucky who survives.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corp. Lewie was a hard workingman who was one of the original founders and help establish O & R Construction in Akron, Indiana in the mid 60’s. Later on in the late 80’s, he went into business for himself as a carpenter.
Lewie was a member of the Rochester VFW Post #1343, Rochester American Legion Post #36, Rochester Fraternal of Eagles and a loyal patron of the “Bears Den” in Akron.
Survivors of Lewie are his wife: Kathie Overlander of Akron; five step-children: Beth Ann Bahney of Wabash; LiaRosa (spouse Jose) of Akron, Rock Lake; Jessica Bentley of Akron; Cori Groninger of Akron; Cody (Jamie) of New Haven; one brother: Raymond E. Overlander of Pendleton; two sisters: Carolyn Murphy of Rochester; Marilyn (spouse Robert) Cleveland of Peru; three grandchildren: Carter Bentley of Akron; Carliegh Bentley of Akron; Maizie Lynn Groninger of New Haven; a total of thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and his loyal canine friend, Jack.
Preceding Lewie in death are his parents, two brothers: Bobby Kamp and Lawrence Overlander; one sister-in-law: Donna Overlander and his loyal canine friend, T-Bone
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester Street, Akron.
The funeral service will follow visitation at 1 p.m. officiated by Rev. Phil Pratt. Burial will be at the Akron IOOF Cemetery, Akron, Indiana
