Carol Margaret Maurer
Carol Margaret Maurer, affectionately known by everyone as “Nurse Carol”, went home to be with her Lord at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020 at the age of 85.
She was a longtime resident of Winona Lake and a recent resident of Grace Village Retirement Community.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1934 in Altoona, Penn. to Cleda Marie (Tyler) Sell and Ray Don Sell. On June 2, 1956, she was married to Raymond Gerald Maurer. They shared 62 years of marriage together before he passed away on Jan. 6, 2019.
Carol was a 1951 graduate of Altoona High School and received her nursing degree from Mercy Hospital in Altoona, Penn. She and her husband moved to Kosciusko County and had been residents for the past 50 years. She quickly put her skills to work and Carol worked as a registered nurse for many years at McDonald Hospital, Murphy Medical Center, Prairie View Health Care Center and throughout her nursing career she was an operating room nurse, and a supervisor at a hospital. She worked as registered nurse for 19 years prior to her retirement for the offices of Dr. Harold Mason, Dr. William Walker and Dr. William Remington in Warsaw, Indiana.
Carol was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. She enjoyed the fellowship of her church family and reading the Bible. One of her most memorable experiences was being witness to a man accepting the Lord as his Savior as his cousin was dying. Carol had many hobbies, she loved crocheting, reading, and taking care of the missionary chest at her church. She enjoyed traveling to Arizona, Arkansas and was able to vacation and see the beauty of Hawaii in her lifetime. Her favorite games were Kings in the Corner and Word Search and she loved a good meal at American Table, Olive Garden and Red Lobster. Carol always had a heart for serving and caring and she loved to take care of others more than herself. Most of all she dearly loved her family and her many grandchildren and will be forever loved and missed.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: Stephen (Mary) Maurer, Fayetteville, Ark.; Mark (Kathy) Maurer, Mesa, Ariz.; and her daughter: Susan (Bill) Lehman, Warsaw. Also surviving are five grandchildren: John Maurer and Stephanie Maurer, Fayetteville, Ark.; Jeremy Lehman, Seattle, Wash.; Emma (Sam) Hall, Winona Lake; Michael Lehman, Warsaw; seven great-grandchildren; and her brother: Ray Sell, Altoona, Penn.
