Book Discussion And More At Syracuse Public Library
SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Public Library announced its events for the week of Jan. 20-25.
The month of January brings a partnership between Chautauqua Wawasee and the Syracuse Library with a discussion about happiness. Actually, joy is a more commonly understood emotion, and the discussion is based on the best-selling title, “The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World.” The book came about when long-time friends and Nobel Peace Prize Laureates His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu spent a week together when the Dalai Lama turned 80. Their dialog, that was recorded and formatted by Douglas Abrams, explains how concepts can become easily understood ideas for finding inner joy.
The discussion is at the Syracuse Library at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24. Extra books are currently available for check out. This is the night of the Kiwanis soup supper, which means no cooking and a delicious meal in the community, said a news release from Syracuse Public Library.
The Syracuse Library is open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Children and moms are welcome to spend the morning at story time at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20. Toddlers and babies have stories and songs with playtime on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Homeschool age children are having more adventures learning about China at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 24.
Adults can learn and play Mahjong on Mondays at 1 p.m. Tuesday starts with easy chair yoga at 10:15 a.m. The McGee’s meet for decluttering support at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21. Drop in to attend any of these programs. Advanced chair yoga meets on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m.
WorkOne, our state employment agency, brings services to the northern part of the county on Wednesdays, 1 – 4:30 p.m. in the Rosalyn Jones room. Dungeons and Dragons meet Mondays, 4 – 8 p.m. and on Fridays, 2 – 6 p.m.
Information for those planning to collect Social Security is available in a small group setting 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Fun at Four and Baylee offer STEM activities and reading on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 4 p.m. People who want to learn to knit will be taught the basics from one of the knitters who come to the weekly knit or crochet group, String Theory. They start at 5 p.m. and stay until closing, said the news release.
