LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 41, FORT WAYNE CANTERBURY 28
Lakeland Christian added one to the win column in a home win Tuesday.
The Cougars held the Cavs to just two points in the first quarter, then stretched out its lead to 24 at the half with a commanding 34-10 advantage.
Tori Calizo had another double-double, her third of the season, with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The senior added three steals and an assist in her compliment. Jessi Calizo added six points, seven rebounds and seven steals, and Natalie Norris had her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.
Jordan Gross added seven rebounds and three blocks for the Cougars.
Lena Reelsen, Georgia Gray and Marissa Rivers all scored six points apiece for the Cavs.
WINAMAC 27, TRITON 11
It wasn’t a night for offense as both teams struggled mightily from the Trojan Trench floor.
Winamac shot just 10-39 from the floor (26 percent) in the game while Triton made just 4-25 field goals for a frigid 16 percent shooting clip. Winamac withstood its own shooting woes to procure a 15-1 run to open the game, holding the Trojans to just one field goal in the first half and three points overall.
Whytnie Miller had eight rebounds on top of her five points to lead the Trojans.
Taylor Jennings had 11 points and four boards to lead the Warriors, Maggie Smith adding 11 rebounds.
COLUMBIA CITY 61, WAWASEE 52
A first-half advantage was enough for Columbia City to hold on for a home win over the Warriors.
City built a 30-21 halftime edge, helped by seven different players scoring at least a basket. Wawasee would chip away at the lead, aided by threes from Hannah Lancaster, Jada Carter and Emily Haines, but it wasn’t enough.
Haines would finish the high scorer for Wawasee with 14 points, adding a pair of steals. Danielle Jenkins had a solid game with 13 points, five assists and three rebounds. Lancaster finished with eight points.
Madison Woodward led the hosts with 15 points and Grace Schrader had nine points. City had nine players score at least three points in the contest.
Columbia City rolled in the JV contest, 51-13. Lindsay Doss and Ryleigh Cole combined for four points and six rebounds in the loss.
LAKEVIEW 7TH GRADE 37, SUMMIT 21
Brooke Winchester helped Lakeview shake off a scoring slump to win big, scoring a team-high 15 points in the season opener for the Tigers. Lakeview scored 17 first-quarter points, but were scoreless in the second stanza. Mai Jones added eight points and Addison Whitaker had seven points in the win.
SUMMIT 8TH GRADE 48, LAKEVIEW 27
The eighth graders did not fare as well in its season opener, losing to Summit, who is 15 games into their season. Scoring for the Tigers were Joey Rastrelli with 11 points and Abigail Davis with five points.
