Grain Bin Accident Causes Death Of North Manchester Man
NORTH MANCHESTER — A grain bin accident resulted in the death of a North Manchester man.
At about 1:22 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, Wabash County Central Dispatch received a call of a possible grain bin entrapment in Chester Township at 8479 N. SR 13, North Manchester.
First responders were on site within minutes, according to Wabash County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Tyler Guenin.
At about 2:14 p.m. Daniel Haupert, 66, North Manchester, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Wabash County Coroner’s Office.
A St. Vincent Health Statflight helicopter, the closest air support available at the time, responded to the scene at the request of first responders.
Several large triangle-shaped holes were cut at the base of the bin in order to remove the soybeans and access the person reportedly trapped inside, said Guenin.
This incident remains under investigation. No other details were available.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana State Police, North Manchester Police Department, Wabash County EMA, Parkview Health, St. Vincent Health, Wabash City Fire Department, North Manchester Fire Department, Chester Township Fire Department, Pleasant Township Fire Department and Urbana Fire Department assisted the Wabash County Sheriff’s Department.
