Potawatami Zoo Stepping Up To Help With Australian Bush Fires
SOUTH BEND — Bush fires are spreading quickly across Australia, with no signs of stopping anytime soon.
So far, more than 12 million acres have burned, killing people and wildlife. People around the globe are stepping up to help.
They’re donating to various assistance organizations.
Two of the biggest places are the Australian Red Cross and the Salvation Army Australia. The organizations are providing food, clothing and donating household items to those whose homes have been destroyed.
The American Red Cross just recently opened up a designation for people to send their donations. All of the money is sent directly to the Australian Red Cross.
South Bend’s Potawatami Zoo is also stepping up to help.
Zoo volunteers are having a bake sale on Saturday, with proceeds going toward WIRES, a wildlife rescue non-profit. The local Potawatami Zoo American Association of Zookeepers is hosting a Chipotle give-back night at the Eddy Street location on Saturday, Feb. 15.
All of the money raised will go toward Australia.
Right now, a half billion animals have burned and that number is expected to increase.
