Warriors Mix It Up At Blazer Invite
ELKHART – The turn of the calendar to 2020 rings in the unofficial open to the high school gymnastics season.
Five teams were in business Saturday as Elkhart Central hosted its Blazer Invite. The host Blazers scored 106.25 to edge Angola’s 105.95 for the team title.
Wawasee was fifth on the card with a 93.55, looking up at Plymouth’s 95.5 and Lakeland’s 97.05 among the lot.
Leading the way for the Warriors was Aundreya Wegener, who scored a 9.2 on floor to lead the invite, tying Angola’s Ashtyn Evans. Emma Ebright also placed on floor with an 8.75, and a pair of vault scores from Talia Kuhl (9.2) and Olivia Ousley (8.8) highlighted Wawasee’s day.
Evans led the meet on vault with a 9.6, bars at 9.4 and beam at 9.4, and folding in the 9.2 on floor to score a 37.6 to land as performer of the meet.
Mia Echartea led Central with a 35.65 all-around, led by a 9.15 on floor. Ellie Dobson scored 9.5 on vault for the Blazers.
NorthWood’s Emilee Conrad will compete with Wawasee this season and scored a 24.75 as an individual.
“It’s great to get started for the season,” began Wawasee head coach Nika Prather. “We are a young team and getting this first meet under our belts I hope will give them more confidence going into Thursday.”
Wawasee begins its home calendar Thursday hosting Fort Wayne Carroll.
