WARSAW — Hogs R Wild BBQ’s restaurant opened on Thursday, Jan. 2.

The restaurant at 1527 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, is run by Mark Poling, who operated his business as a food truck for four years.

The new store operates in the same location as Chicago Doghouse, which closed last year.

“I’ve always thought the location and the size of the building were perfect for my vision of owning a BBQ restaurant,” said Poling.

Hogs R Wild specializes in all wood-fired BBQ. No gas or electric is used to cook in any of the restaurant’s pits. The restaurant has brisket, pork, chicken, ribs and other specialty items. Some featured items included loaded spuds, pulled pork egg rolls and buffalo chicken wontons.

Poling saw brisk noon hour sales on their first day of business Thursday.

The restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays or until sold out.

“We are excited to bring our BBQ to this community in a permanent space,” said Poling. “The support we’ve received and the excitement we’ve seen during the remodel has kept us going.”
