Alice Elaine McCray
Alice Elaine McCray, 90, Winona Lake, formerly of Marion, passed away at 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at Grace Village Healthcare in Winona Lake. She was born on Sept. 19, 1929, in Huntington, to Raymond Floyd and Euda Idell (Martz) DeWitt.
She graduated in 1947 from Clear Creek High School in Huntington County and was married on Sept. 28, 1952, at the Pleasant Chapel Evangelical United Brethren Church near Roanoke to Walter Lee McCray who preceded her on Sept. 5, 2004. Surviving are daughter Dawn (Doug) Calvelage of Warsaw, sons David, Kevin, Kelly, and Patrick McCray who were born from that union. She was a homemaker and formerly worked at Schacht Rubber Manufacturing Company in Huntington, from 1947-1953. She was a 50 year resident of Marion, before moving to Kosciusko County in October 2004.
She was a member of the RCA-GE-TCE Employees Sympathy Club in Marion and was of the United Brethren in Christ faith. She loved cats, enjoyed reading, watching tennis & basketball, and playing the piano at church. She worked 28+ years at precinct election sites in Marion.
Other survivors include four grandchildren: Courtney (Kory) Mann of Yulee, Fla.; Christopher (Melody) Ybarra of Converse; Brooke Ebel of Van Wert, Ohio; and Adam Calvelage of Warsaw; nine great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 4 brothers-Floyd Orville DeWitt, Edison “Eddie” DeWitt, Edwin “Oliver” DeWitt, and Meredith “Paul” Dewitt.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m-1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020 at Needham Storey Wampner Funeral Service, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home with Fr. Paul Seaman and Fr. Kevin McCray officiating. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Memory, 11201 S. Marion Rd-35, Marion. Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, is in charge of all arrangements.
