June Ellen Burrus
June Ellen (Edwards) Burrus, 82, Peru, went to be with the Lord at 8:46 am, Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019 at Duke’s Memorial Hospital in Peru. She was born March 21, 1937, in Casey, Ill. to Victor and Geraldine (Tipsword) Edwards.
June was the valedictorian of the 1955 graduating class of Casey High School and graduated with honors from Eastern Illinois University. She married Rev. Lowell E. Burrus at the Enon Baptist Church in Ashmore Township, Ill. on July 21, 1957. They lived in Hutton Township in Coles County, Ill. until 1970 when she and Lowell moved their family to Roann, Indiana to pastor at Olive Branch Church of God. She supported her husband as he led the church for 40 years and spent much of her time leading women’s Bible studies, teaching, and encouraging others. June was a living example of the love of Jesus Christ to everyone she met. Her home was always open to anyone that needed a hot meal or a place to stay. She enjoyed reading, and writing poetry and loved to take pictures with her camera. She loved spending time with her family and closely followed her son John’s basketball coaching career, and attending her grandchildren’s ball games. She was a lifelong learner and an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Lowell E. Burrus of Peru; two children, Julie (Steve) Deniston of Roann; and John (Tammy) Burrus of Denver; daughter-in-law, Carie Burrus of Auburn; five grandchildren: Tiffany (Jonathan) Branam of Muncie; Charity Burrus of Auburn; Joel (Ashley) Burrus of Rochester; Alicia (Blake) Robinson of Pittsboro; and Lael (Brandon) Larrick of Kokomo; 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Paul Burrus, and sister, Velma Morgan.
