HOMESTEAD 70, WARSAW 51
Warsaw suffered its first loss of the season in a match-up with Class 4A, No. 7 Homestead at the Tiger Den Friday.
Brock Poe led Warsaw with 18 points. Bishop Walters added eight points to go with four rebounds and four assists. Wyatt Amiss and Jaylen Coon chipped in seven points each, and Blake Marsh led the team in rebounds with five while dishing out four assists. Connor Lennox provided a spark off the bench with six points.
Homestead knocked down 25-of-42 shots in the win, including a blistering 10-of-20 3-point shots. Luke Goode scored a game-high 21 points, while Zak Krueger and Grant Simmons each finished with 10.
The Tigers fall to 2-1 on the season and plays Huntington North Saturday.
The JV Tigers won their match-up, 40-37, meanwhile. Jaxson Gould scored 13, and Judah Simfukwe finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists in the win.
Warsaw’s freshmen won their game by a 39-27 margin.
Theo Katris and Drew Heckaman scored 13 points each for the Tigers.
KNOX 39, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 37
The Vikings lost a heartbreaker at Knox Friday. Valley led the entire game with only a couple of ties but scored just four points in the fourth quarter, and Knox hit a basket with two seconds left to give the Redskins the win.
The Vikings were led by Tanner Trippiedi with 10 points. Rex Kirchenstien scored seven, and Paul Leasure, Braden Shepherd and Dawson Perkins scored six apiece.
The JV won 36-35 on a last second shot by Brendyn Stump in another nail-biter. Leading the way was Nolan Cumberland with 13 points and Stump with nine.
The Vikings slip to 1-2. They travel to Oregon-Davis on Tuesday to play a varsity-only game that will start at 7pm EST.
LAKELAND CHRISTIAN 42, CULVER COMMUNITY 39 OT
Lakeland’s boys earned their first win of the season with a thrilling overtime victory in the nightcap of a girls/ boys doubleheader in Culver Friday night.
Seth Martin poured in 22 points with 10 rebounds to power the Cougars to the win, while Cameron Shepherd chipped in eight points with six rebounds, and Brayden Lane scored six points, including a big 3-pointer in the extra period.
Culver was led by Jalen King’s 12 points and 10 from Donovan Ziaja.
The Cougars play host to Portage Christian next Friday.
CULVER COMMUNITY GIRLS 56, LAKELAND CHRISTIAN 43
The Lady Cougars fell in a boys/ girls doubleheader in Culver Friday.
Jessi Calizo scored 16 points with five steals to lead her team. Tori Calizo finished with 15 points and eight rebounds but struggled with 11 turnovers as LCA turned the ball over 34 times in the loss.
Lily Hayes put up 16 points, and Kenzie Binkley scored 10 for the Lady Cavs.
The Cougars slip to 2-7 with a game scheduled at Hamilton Saturday.
