County May Waive Late Payment Penalties Following Website Error
WARSAW — Kosciusko County will consider waiving any late fees for taxpayers who submitted tax payments a day late as a result of an online error.
Fall tax payments were due Nov. 12, but the treasurer’s website indicated incorrectly that the deadline was Nov. 13, a mistake that might have led property owners to unwittingly submit their payments late.
InkFreeNews learned of the mistake from an anonymous source and then checked with county officials.
Kosciusko County Treasurer’s Office issued a news release Tuesday, Dec. 3, saying the county is willing to consider waiving any late payment penalties for taxpayers who paid their tax bill a day late because of the confusion.
Taxpayers should contact the Kosciusko County Treasurer’s Office (574) 372-2370 no later than Dec. 31 to discuss whether they can have a waiver.
County Treasurer Rhonda Helser was contacted via email and asked how many taxpayers might have been affected and how the error occurred. She declined to comment.
