Trojans Open Up With Win
HAMLET – It was a solid start for Triton’s boys basketball team Wednesday night, defeating Oregon-Davis 49-30 in the season opener for both clubs.
Ashton Oviedo used a 7-8 performance from the free throw line along with a 5-9 performance from the floor to rack up 19 points to lead the Trojans in the road win. Oviedo also had five rebounds and four steals in over 31 minutes of court action.
Jared Bules finished with nine points and three assists, Keegan Westafer with eight points and five rebounds, and Tyson Yates with five points, three assists and two steals.
Overall, Triton had 10 steals among the Bobcats’ 22 turnovers on the night, and held the hosts to just 30 percent shooting (11-37) while the Trojans shot 46 percent for the night (15-33) and got to the free throw line 25 times, making 14. Triton used the turnovers to create a 26-4 margin in points off turnovers in the game.
Triton (1-0) opens its home slate Tuesday in the annual Marshall County showdown with Plymouth.
