SYRACUSE — A warrant was recently served on a Michigan City man for his alleged involvement in a 2016 theft at CVS Pharmacy in Syracuse.
Jeffery Allen Evans, 46, Michigan City, is charged with theft, a class A misdemeanor; and sentence enhancement theft, a level 6 felony.
On Aug. 14, 2016, an officer with the Syracuse Police Department responded to a possible theft occurring at CVS Pharmacy. The officer was told the alleged suspects were two men who had previously stolen items from CVS Pharmacies in Bremen and Nappanee.
According to court documents, the officer went to CVS and found the two men, one identified as Evans, in the back of the store. Both men were wearing coats and had merchandise hidden in their pockets. The total value of the merchandise was $1,160.17.
Evans and the man told the officer they intended to pay for the merchandise and the officer escorted them to the cash register. Neither of the men had the ability to pay for the merchandise.
Evans was previously convicted of theft on Jan. 18, 2013, in Porter County.
The second man involved in this case was arrested on June 28, 2018. The charges were later dismissed on Sept. 4, 2018.
