Eight-Year-Old Bestselling Author Is Son Of South Bend Native
SOUTH BEND — A best-selling children’s author made a stop this afternoon in South Bend. Nicholas Buamah held a book signing and giveaway at the Charles Martin Youth Center Sunday afternoon.
Did we mention that he’s just 8 years old?
Standing at around 4 feet tall, Buamah has built a resume that would make any seasoned author jealous. He’s the proud author of “Kayla and Kyle, The Walking Dictionaries.”
The children’s book focuses heavily on vocabulary while also telling a story.
“Since I wrote the book about vocabulary that it spreads the word around the world so other kids and other people can see,” Buamah said.
And spread the word he has — his book has been on the Amazon and Barnes and Noble best seller list! For his work, he’s met former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and the president of Ghana, where his dad was born.
“I still don’t know how to because it hasn’t slowed down, so I’m still in awe about it,” Danielle Hubbard, Nicholas’ mom said.
Danielle Hubbard is Nicholas’ mom and manager. She grew up in South Bend and now lives in Atlanta. Her life is now consumed by Nicholas’ career which includes writing, a prospering YouTube channel and his foundation, Books without Borders.
“It’s where me and some other kid authors are taking some books to Ghana to give to their schools and libraries there,” Buamah said.
On Sunday, he gave away and signed books at the Charles Martin Youth Center. All the kids and even the adults got a picture. Nicholas says he wants to be an engineer when he grows up, but even at his young age, his career has already taken off.
His book has also been preserved in the Library of Congress and he has another book coming out in December. On Monday evening, he’ll be recognized at the South Bend Common Council meeting with a resolution honoring his achievements.
