Concord Opens Strong Against Wawasee
DUNLAP – It was the exact start Concord wanted, and conversely, a nightmare start for Wawasee. The Minutemen cruised to a 67-16 win over Warriors in the Northern Lakes Conference girls basketball opener for both clubs.
After taking a 17-5 lead after one quarter, Concord held Wawasee to just a pair of free throws in the second quarter, rushing out to a 31-7 lead at the half. Concord added 18 points in the third quarter to secure its first NLC win of the season.
Kendal Swartout had the high mark for the Minutemen (5-0, 1-0 NLC) with 14 points, followed by Jadelyn Williams with 12 points and Sydney Simon with 11 points. Overall, nine Concord players had at least a basket in the contest.
Becca Smith led Wawasee (3-1, 0-1 NLC) with six points and 12 rebounds. Emily Haines added four points and eight boards.
Concord also rolled in the JV contest, handing Wawasee its first loss in a 44-19 final. Lindsay Doss had a decent game for Wawasee (3-1) with six points and seven rebounds. Ryleigh Cole chipped in five rebounds. Aliyah Hershberger paced the Minutemen with 13 points.
