Planning For Kosciusko County Vote Center Implementation Delayed Until 2021
WARSAW — Kosciusko County will not transition to voting centers in time for the 2020 election.
Instead, the officials will begin planning in 2021 and hope to have vote centers ready for use in 2022.
County Clerk Ann Torpy announced Monday that the vote center committee met last week and determined that “it would be best for the county to move to vote centers after the 2020 Election.”
Instead, they will begin the planning process in 2021.
Officials had tentatively been looking at having the changes implemented next year for the presidential election.
The proposed switch to vote centers will allow all registered voters in Kosciusko County to cast ballots at any of the available vote centers in the county on Election Day.
“We don’t want to make too many big changes in that big of an election,” Torpy said.
“We’re going to put our efforts into making sure 2020 goes smoothly and then focus on vote centers in 2021,” she said.

The study committee that made this decision is made up of both party chairmen, Democratic vice chairman, a Republican precinct committeeman, a county commissioner, a county councilman, and county IT staff, plus the three-member county election board.
Torpy, who sits on the election board, said the election board supported the decision to wait.
